Razer Kraken Pro USB

The other day I needed to get me some new headphones, and I needed some ASAP.  Might seem odd but I work from home and I am on Google Hangouts quite a bit with my team in Atlanta.  I, however, live in a small town in Texas.  In this tiny town, the best chance to find anything like this is Walmart.  That is really all we have.  So I walked through their small electronic section and found these headphones for around $70 bucks.

When I am buying headphones for my computer I really want a decent quality and I have some basic criteria that I normally look for.

Criteria

  1. Must fit comfortably around ears not to press my ears down.
  2. Must not clamp to tightly to my head.
  3. USB Connection, no phono plugs.
  4. Microphone built in.
  5. Cross-Platform operating system use.
  6. Hopefully cheap.
These headphones seemed to meet my criteria so I bought them and ripped open the box plugged them in and attempted to get on Google hangouts for my next call.  Voila, it worked on my Macbook without issue.  I did not need to install a thing.  I am officially a happy camper again, and I can talk and hear and everything is right again going to work.  Once done with my calls I wanted to see if it was just as good connecting to my other machines.  I tried my Windows, Ubuntu and even Chromebook.  All were good.  No drivers needed.

Fast forward a couple weeks. I have been using them for a while and things still sound good but on both sides right beside the slide to change the size and fitting the plastic breaks.  On both sides.  I am really frustrated because I like the sound and quality of the headphones but the construction isn't holding up.  I ended up taking some aluminum strapping and some black electrical tape and lashed the joint to the size I wanted.  This ended up working nicely and everything is still very functional.  So far no more issues and call quality is good.  It is just a shame that they didn't hold up to begin with.
